COVERING TV STATIONS IN SOUTHWESTERN BC

"CH News" (5/4/2005)

The television landscape on Vancouver Island went through a few dramatic changes in Fall 2004, when several key CHEK news personalities, including Hudson Mack, moved to crosstown rival CIVI. In response to those moves, CHEK hired CTV's Victoria bureau chief Ed Watson, and paired him up with Sophie Lui (back from sister station Global BC) as the station's new primary anchor team. CHEK updated its graphics, music and set in October 2004 to coincide with the new personnel arrangement.

Initially, the lower-third graphics remained the same as those from 2002, but they were changed in 2005. Here are some screenshots from May 2005.

The open. The open. The open. The open. Hudson Mack and Sophie Lui with the L3. Sophie with the OTS, which is a new addition with the new graphics. The full-screen for Provincial Election coverage, based on Global's national election coverage graphics. The bumper graphic. Ed Bain joins in at the desk for a first look at weather. The full-screen with current conditions. The full screen graphic. A recap of the top stories at 5:30. The Vancouver Sun's Vaughn Palmer analyzing the previous night's party leaders debate, from the newsroom. A look at the Live graphic by itself, which comes with the CH News bug in the corner. The split screen for Provincial Election coverage, also based on Global's network election graphics. Ed Bain with the main weather segment. Regional breakdown. The extended forecast, now split into 2 slides: North/Central Island and South Island. The sports sting. Keith Wells with sports. Vee Cooper with health.
