COVERING TV STATIONS IN SOUTHWESTERN BC

"Breakfast Television" (12/4/2003)

Taken from 12/4/2003. BT's new format debuted on November 24. Along with a new look, the show's "goof" factor was reduced rather significantly: the 6-7am hour now pretty much concentrates on news, weather, traffic and sports updates, separating the duo of Mike Eckford and Fiona Forbes. The two are "re-united" for portions of the 7am and 8am hours, but a lot of attention has been diverted away from them as well. New personality Karen Khunkhun now handles traffic and weather. Gone is the BT House; the hosts now interchange between the CityPulse newsroom and "The Front", a more-or-less storefront studio along the side of the CKVU building.

The new open titles, only shown at 6am. There are no longer stings signifying the top of the 7am and 8am hours. The "BT" logo has now taken on the colours of its Toronto counterpart, superimposed over an animated "CityPulse" background. Mark Docherty with the new L3. The info bar at the bottom alternates between the day's forecast and the 5 day outlook. Karen Khunkhun outside the building on West 2nd Ave handling the traffic report. Full-screen showing traffic details and the tip line, superimposed over an animated highway map of the Lower Mainland. Karen with the day's forecast. Alas! New weather maps! The 5 day forecast, displayed here twice (including on the info bar). Mark and Karen banter via the split screen. Michael Eckford now handles morning sports. Banter between Mike and Mark. And banter between Mark and Fiona, who just intro'd a piece by videographer Jay Brown. Mark about to toss to Karen and Fiona. The info bar is just in the process of alternating weather information. And here Mark tosses to Karen by the map of Lower Mainland for traffic (so that's what the map's for...) A tighter shot of Karen with the map. (This particular shot is reminding me of the early days of "VTV Breakfast"...) Mark tosses to Peter Louwe. Peter Louwe reporting live outside VGH. And here's "The Front", with West 2nd Ave in the background. And here's a tighter shot with L3. Mike and Fiona finally back together...
